For any of you who remember a previous post, Benson has had chronic ear infections. On January 10, we had tubes placed in his ears to help. The infections persisted. I got over my chiropractophobia and took him to the chiropractor. The infections persisted. The Ear, Nose and Throat specialist determined he had severe mastoiditis. (Mastoids are the bones right behind your ears) Since oral antibiotics haven't helped, we had to take the next step. On Friday, my dad and I took Benson to Primary Children's to have a PICC line put in. (A PICC line is a more permanent IV. It is about 22 inches long, starts in his arm, follows a main artery up past his shoulder and across his chest to the top of his heart.) Yes, I was super paranoid. Yes, I was stressed because Josh couldn't be there (since he was in CANCUN!) Yes, I was SUPER grateful to my dad for going with me. (Not sure if I've ever mentioned it, but my dad is FABULOUS! He is the BEST!) After EIGHT attempts, (yes I said 8 attempts) in both his hands and feet, the IV team finally got the IV in place to sedate him. It was so sad. He was just shaking. Poor baby. Fortunately, the PICC line went in alot more smoothly. We've had home health care come to help me give him his antibiotics and we'll see how his is doing after two weeks of treatment. Believe me, I could write so much more about this... but I'll keep it semi-short and post a slide show. By the way, per my previous post about Benson's ears, has anyone found that instruction manual???

Hi Kristen-
I'm glad you finally posted again! I enjoy reading about your cute boys, you are a great mom. I am so sorry the chiropractor thing didn't work. I am even more sorry that it is something more severe than a simple ear infection. I hope the poor little guy gets feeling much better really soon! Have a good day.
Hey Kristen,
Sorry about your little boy. I'm sure that was a lot of stress. I know as a parent it is hard to see your little one not at his/her best. It sure is great to have a dad help you out when needed. I think a dad is the next best thing to a husband. Maybe I'm just a big daddy's girl. Hope everything gets better. Talk to you soon. Brittany
The birthday cake was so cute! You're brave to attempt those. I did one and it turned out great, but it took FOREVER to do! And my hand was sore from squeezing the frosting bag so much.
I hate doing hospitals with kids. I'd much, MUCH rather trade places with them. It's so difficult to try to stay brave in front of them when you just want to swat everyone away, pick up your baby, hold them tight and have a good cry. Looks like he was a trooper. I hope the procedure helps! THen it will make it ALL worth it!
Looking forward to seeing you at the wedding! You're coming out, right?
I was thinking about you all week.... Now I know why!! I am so sorry that Benson is feeling the pits. But for all that you probably feel worse. I really hope that they get a handle on the drama. Best wishes. Give Benson a squeeze for me... This is no way to spend a birthday.
You poor girl. I feel so bad for Benson, but it is so hard on the mom. (harder I think sometimes) Hope it starts working for him.

Poor little guy! That is so sad and I'm so sorry for you. It is so hard on the mom to see their little baby have to go through something like that. Keep us posted on how he's doing and what comes next. You look great by the way!
Oh Kristen I am so sorry!! I didn't know you were going out to have that done... I can't imagine how hard that was on you, especially without your husband here. I hope that helps, and Benson will be able to stay feeling well!
I'm so sorry. I wish I was there (not that I could have fixed it) but I would have offered my best nursing skills. Sounds like I'd better give you a call.
