"'Our family’s faith is in Jesus Christ and is not dependent on outcomes.' ...We do all that we can for the healing of a loved one, and then we trust in the Lord for the outcome."

My Christmas baby

Christmas was great. Of course it was. With my little guys, I don't think it could be anything but that. We were certainly blessed and were are very thankful. I will post a slide show of our Christmas Eve and Day at the end.

The reason I wanted to post today was because it is McKay's birthday. That little man is already four years old. I can't believe that it was four years ago that I met my second little baby boy for the first time.
I think back about my pregnancy and delivery and so many emotions come flooding back. My pregnancy with McKay was hard emotionally because it seemed like all along the way the doctor and I both had worries. I think I had an ultrasound at almost every appointment, and I was sick a lot. I ended up having several NST's with him throughout the pregnancy. I also had all kinds of nightmares about him. I dreamed that his heart was only half developed, that he didn't have a lung, that his blood was toxic to his little body... the list goes on and on.

When I saw my little baby for the first time I was so overwhelmed that I couldn't stop crying. Josh saw something more than I did. He was emotional for a completely different reason. Long story short, it's no secret that McKay has an ulnar club arm. The weeks following his birth were hard. I couldn't get past the worry that I had done something wrong in my pregnancy. After several blessings, prayers and holding my new baby, I was given the distinct answer that I admit I have to go back to time and again. McKay was chosen to come to our family. He was meant to come a little different than most. It wouldn't have mattered if I had been perfect in my pregnancy. He would have come the way he did.

Four years and two surgeries later, he acts like it makes no difference. He rarely talks about it. In fact he only mentions it if someone else brings it up. Recently, a little girl asked him why his hand only had two fingers and he said it was so he could pinch them together. More often than giving funny little answers like that, he will say simply that Jesus gave it to him. There have been several times I have thought about that, and wondered: How often do I look at the challenges and frustrations in my life and with that same faith say, "Jesus gave it to me."

I can't tell you how much McKay means to me. Of course, all mothers understand how precious each child is. You can't express in words the kind of love that you have for your children. But, he really is an example to me. He is a funny little boy, full of energy and life. He is affectionate and ambitious. He is confident and curious. He has the kind of personality that will lead him to success. He is not afraid of trying new things. He has a laugh that is so contagious, I dare you to not smile when you hear it. I don't mean to go on and on forever, I just wanted to express some of the feelings I have been reflecting upon and having today. I am so grateful for my sweet McKay and that I am blessed to be his mother.

Oh Christmas Tree

We had fun letting the boys decorate our Christmas tree. Of course, most of the ornaments were clumped all together. Especially where McKay was decorating. If you look at the last picture, you can see a lot of ornaments all in the same place. I counted ten all in the same two branches. I tried to spread them out, but the boys like to re-decorate a few ornaments every day. Oh well, at least it's something that they will remember and enjoy.

The big hunt

We go Christmas tree hunting every year after Thanksgiving. We pack a picnic, bundle up and hunt for the perfect kill to proudly display in our living rooms for the holiday season. It is so much fun and it really sparks the Christmas spirit. Since Josh and I are a little in limbo, we didn't get a tree this year... we just borrowed a fake one from a friend. Pathetic, I know. We will most likely always have real trees, so I didn't want to buy one. Emily and my mom found great trees and I was very green with envy, but I guess there's always next year. Enjoy the slideshow!
P.S. I have to mention that the Il Divo Christmas CD is FABULOUS! I had to add a track to my playlist. Enjoy!

Sevens

Two of my cousins (Joleen and Paige) tagged me. I guess I better get to it...

  • 7 THINGS I CAN DO: I can make a mean PB&J (just ask my kids, hehe). I can fit my entire fist in my mouth. I can wiggle my ears with the best of them. I can walk on my hands (my all-time high is 200 steps). I can repeat way too many lines from the Polar Express. I can balance coins on my elbow and then catch them in my hand.
  • 7 THINGS I CAN'T DO: I can't wait until Christmas. I can't control everything in my life. I can't resist a Pepsi. I can't buy little girl clothes. I can't dream with out some part of the dream being way off-the-wall. I can't ever rest from LAUNDRY! There's always a load to be done (Aah, little boys). I can't imagine my life without my boys.
  • 7 THINGS THAT ATTRACTED ME TO JOSH: He sang to me (It was really sweet). His testimony. His determination. Yes, his kiss. His respect for the gospel, his family, my family and me. His priesthood (Being a worthy priesthood holder is a big deal to me). The way he looked at me.
  • 7 THINGS I SAY MOST OFTEN: Seriously?! Love you. FABULOUS! Oh-my-heck! Ummm...ya. What-y? (Usually a response to MOMMY...) If you (blah, blah, blah) you'll get a magic rock!
  • 7 FAVORITE FOODS: Chicken, Macho Nachos, Gnocchi, (Um, I have to agree with you Jo!) FLACOS!!, Cilantro and lime combinations, Brownies and Pepsi
  • 7 CELEBRITY ADMIRATIONS: Really? I don't know. I don't ADMIRE any. I like the work they do... but, I don't really ADMIRE any, Sorry, but... SERIOUSLY?!
  • TAG YOU'RE IT: Mindy (since you are a new blogger), and Martha

Thankful

I am posting a list of things I am thankful for in my sidebar. Thanks Jo, for sharing the things you are thankful for.

Disney on Ice, the Aquarium and Ironman

I know that I always use slide shows, but it is the best way to use a lot of pictures. Last weekend, Grammy and Papa took us all to Disney on Ice. It was so much fun. The boys totally loved it. THANK YOU GRAMMY AND PAPA!! They seemed to really like Aladdin, Nemo and The Incredibles. Grammy and Papa even bought them souvenirs. Benson wanted Flounder from Little Mermaid, McKay picked a Mr. Incredible light spinner thing and Kimball wanted a sword to go along with the Mickey Mouse crown from the cotton candy. They are still talking about it. It was awesome. It really makes me want to take them to Disneyland. Especially because McKay really wanted to share his popcorn with Nemo. It was so cute. At the end, he wanted to give Nemo a love and a kiss.
Then, my sister and I took the boys to the aquarium in Sandy where Kimball and McKay were determined to pet the stingrays. They were SOAKING wet. (Check out the picture of McKay's hoodie). Benson just loved looking at all the fish. He kept signing "fish" and then would point at one, sign "fish" and point at another. It was great. Oh, and the random picture of Benson with the Ironman mask... I guess I should explain. I am posting it because he was having fun walking around with it, but it was so funny because his eyes are totally below the eyes in the mask. If you look at the picture closely, you can see his little eyes in there. Hehe. I love my boys. Oh, P.S. if anyone has had a successful, affordable trip to Disneyland, we would like some tips. Anything helps.

Snicker-Noodles

My boys always want to help me cook. I am ashamed to admit that I often tell them they can help another time. I usually just want to get it done. Well, I noticed that I had been repeatedly telling them "another time," "next time," "not now," and I felt bad. So, I decided to let them make cookies. I had everything to make snickerdoodles, and so that's what we made. It was a huge mess, and I think they consumed enough cookie dough and cinnamon sugar to last until next year, but they had a good time. They kept calling them snickerNoodles, and wondered why cookies were called noodles. That's when I had to tell them they were snickerDoodles not noodles.
